1. Agreement

These Terms of Use ("Terms") apply to the WhatsMyName: Username Search app (the "app"), published by its independent developer ("we", "us"). The first time you open the app, you are asked to tick I agree to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. By ticking it and continuing, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The app is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to use it.

2. What the app does

You type a username and the app checks, from your phone, whether public profile pages for that username exist on several thousand websites, using open-source site lists (see Open-source credits). Optional extra tools can read public profile details from accounts that were found.

Results are clues from public data, not proof of identity. An account with the same username may belong to a different person, a brand, a bot or nobody at all. Websites change, block automated checks, show placeholder pages and return false positives or false negatives. Never treat a result as proof that an account belongs to a specific person, and check every result yourself before relying on it.

The app is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WhatsMyName, Sherlock or Maigret projects, or by any website it checks.

3. Acceptable use

Use the app only for lawful purposes and only to look up usernames you have a legitimate reason to research, for example your own accounts, brand protection, security research, or checking whether a handle is free before you register it. You must not use the app, or any result from it, to:

You are responsible for how you use the app and its results, and for complying with the laws that apply to you.

4. Not a consumer reporting agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency, and the app does not provide consumer reports. You must not use the app or its results to make, or help make, decisions about anyone's eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or any other purpose covered by the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) or similar laws in other countries.

5. Third-party websites

The websites the app checks, and the pages you open from results (in the app's built-in browser or your own browser), belong to third parties. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. Your use of those websites is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, which you are responsible for following.

6. Free scans, rewards and ads

The app is free and supported by ads from Google AdMob. It includes a number of free scans per day; the number is set in the app's settings and may change. You can choose to watch a short rewarded ad for extra scans or for temporary access to the extra tools. Watching an ad is always optional. Rewards are given only after the ad network confirms the ad was watched, have no cash value, cannot be transferred or exchanged, are stored only on your phone and are lost if you clear the app's data or reinstall it. Ads, and the data Google's ad software processes, are described in the Privacy Policy.

7. WhatsMyName Pro

Nothing is sold in this version of the app. The extra tools (Deep search, Export and the "Also check" follow-up scans) are unlocked only for a limited time by watching an optional rewarded ad (section 6). Purchases are not offered at the moment. If optional purchases are offered in a future version, their price and conditions will be shown in the app and in Google Play before you buy, payment will be handled by Google Play under Google Play's terms, refunds will follow Google Play's refund policies, and these terms will be updated.

Features included in the free version may change over time.

8. Privacy

How the app handles data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms. When you accept these Terms, the app records which version you accepted and when, as described there.

9. Open-source data and software

The site lists and software components the app uses are provided by their authors under their own licences, credited on the Open-source credits page. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under those licences.

10. No warranty

The app and its results are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that the app will be available, uninterrupted or error-free, or that any result is correct.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill or reputation, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or its results, or from how you or anyone else acts on them. To the extent we are liable anyway, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions or limits, so they apply to you only as far as the law allows. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms or the Privacy Policy. When a change needs your agreement, the app will tell you on a screen inside the app and ask you to accept the updated versions before you continue using it. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and uninstall it. The effective date at the top of this page shows when these Terms last changed.

13. Ending your use

You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. We may stop offering the app, or any part of it, at any time.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws that apply where the developer is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you keep any mandatory protections of the law of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in the courts there where that law allows it.

15. General

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the app. Translations of the app's texts are for convenience; if they differ, the English version prevails.
